>Iroquois, WV, died Good Friday, March 21, 2008. She came to Newport News
>in 1942 to work in the shipyard during WW II. She met Aldo Chiesa at a
>USO dance, and they married May 1945.

>She was preceded in death by her parents The Rev. Peter Samuel & Hattie
>Belle (Rucker) Burkett; husband, Aldo (d '1979); daughter, Cara Rose;
>sisters, Eva Eileen Taft and Samuel Marie McCarty; and grandson, Peter
>Samuel Hogg.

>She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and Roanoke Business
>College. She retired from Fort Eustis Personnel. She was a deeply
>committed lifelong member of the Methodist Church and many of its
>organizations in and beyond her congregation. Since 1985 she worked
>tirelessly to enlist support throughout the peninsula for the Henry Fork
>Center which assists rural children in Virginia. She dearly loved the
>social life at her "new home", the Hidenwood Retirement Community.
