The first of many steps were taken at Oakwood Confederate Cemetery in
Richmond this afternoon as several members of the Oakwood Committee
gathered and installed an upright marker for Andrew B. Walker, the
Confederate ancestor of Marie Jennings of Mechanicsville.

Andrew Walker was a private in the 22nd Battalion Virginia Infantry,
Co. G, and was wounded at Frayser's Farm in June, 1862, and was
admitted to St. Charles General Hospital #8 and succumbed to his wounds
on July 15, 1862.

With the City of Richmond currently in a perpetual holding pattern and
blocking every effort for the proper marking and dignity of the 17,000+
fallen heroes who are buried at Oakwood, the Oakwood Committee has taken
yet one more step towards fulfilling our charge and a pledge long
overdue. The setting of this stone is just the beginning of many more to
come.
