Dear Fellow Compatriots,
The saga of Captain Duncan Campbell Stafford is quickly coming to the
final stage. A memorial event is planned to close the chapter of a
brave Southerner who gave his life for his God, his family and his
Country. A year ago in Richmond, Virginia a large group of South
Carolineans arrived at Oakwood Cemetery to give homage to Captain
Stafford. We were joined by a large group of Virginians who had
restored the headstone and iron fence at the said gravesite. Home soil
was scattered at his gravesite at Oakwood and in turn soil from Oakwood
will be scattered at his parents grave at the Stafford cemetery located
at Harllee's Bridge Road, just a few hundred feet from the North/South
Carolina line. This special event will give us all closure in that the
story of his life and our lives will come full circle. Please join us
and Stafford family members as we hold this memorial to honor a brave
Southerner and one of our own.
The event will be held on Saturday November 3, 2007 at 2:00PM. If
anyone has any questions or needs additional directions please call me
at 843-774-1600 (home) or better call me at 843-618-0815 (cell).
From I-95, take exit 193 (hwy 9) west to Bennetsville and drive 2 to 3
miles until you arrive at a yellow caution light (downtown Little Rock,
SC), then turn right on Harllees Bridge Road and drive 6 to 8 miles, you
cannot miss the cemetery. When you see a large two story brick
plantation home on your left, you will be there just a few hundred yards
from the North/South Carolina line.
Please mark you calendars. We hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Donald R. Hayes, 2nd Lt. Commander
SCV Camp 2010 Dillon, SC
