The Alexandria Historical Society is sponsoring a talk by Elizabeth 
Pryor, author of a new book on Lee, "Reading the Man", at the Lyceum on 
October 24 at 7:30 p.m.

"Reading the Man" is a hostile portrait of Lee, seeking to show that he 
was not the paragon as heretofore depicted.  It is partly based on 
letters recently discovered in trunks deposited with the Burke & 
Herbert Bank by Mary Lee before her death in 1918.

I'll be in Kentucky, but rally the compatriots to show up and confront 
this woman.  Please, bring your rapiers but leave your battleaxes at 
home.  If, like me, you haven't read the book, don't presume what you 
don't know; just use her remarks at the meeting.  Those of you who are 
at too great a distance to come, please pass this on to any friends you 
may have who are closer.
