Saving Harrisonburg's Battlefield

The Sons of Confederate Veterans wants a battlefield state park in 
Harrisonburg.

Confederate General Turner Ashby was killed at the battle of 
Harrisonburg in 1862.  The Sons of Confederate Veterans has asked 
Governor Tim Kaine to turn about 49 acres into the Harrisonburg 
Battlefield State Park.

But the land is owned by James Madison University (a state college) 
which wants to put athletic fields in part of the area.

JMU will conduct a study of teh site and the Sons are looking forward to 
it.  "We feel that when they see the report, they are going to come to 
the realization that the property is valuable, to the Commonwealth, to 
all Virginians, all Americans, to have an opportunity to come out and 
study," says John Mann IV Sons of Confederate Veterans.
