Save the Battle of Harrisonburg Site
On the 6th of June 1862 men from Pennsylvania, and Maryland and Virginia stood muzzle-to-muzzle and shed each other's blood; on another 6th of June, in 1944, descendants of men in Blue and Gray from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia stood shoulder-to-shoulder and saved each other's blood to defeat world domination by Hitler's Germany.
Men from the following counties were at the Battle of Harrisonburg: Amelia, Amherst, Appomattox, Augusta, Bedford, Buckingham, Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Franklin, Goochland, Halifax, Hanover, Loudoun, Louisa, Orange, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, Rappahannock, Rockingham and the City of Richmond.
The land on which the Battle of Harrisonburg was fought on 6 June 1862 is under threat of destruction of its historical integrity. James Madison University plans to build intramural athletic fields on the land.
We are asking all Compatriots to respectfully demand JMU return stewardship of the land to the Commonwealth for development into the Harrisonburg Battlefield State Park. Write Charles W. King, Jr., Senior Vice-President, Alumnae Hall, Rm. 107, MSC 7606, Harrisonburg, VA 22807. Write your state delegate and senator, too.
Help save the legacy of the men in Blue and Gray for all Virginians and Americans.
